Ford Mustang Mach-E Delivery Date – When Can You Get a Mach-E?

From longtime EV fans to those ready to make the switch to an EV thanks to the current climate crisis, consumers are wondering how to get their hands on a state-of-the-art Ford EV in a timely manner. Ford designed the Mustang Mach-E from the ground up to meet the overwhelming market need, and this electric pony car has seen solid sales numbers since 2021. Sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E even outpaced sales of the traditional Ford Mustang this July (2022).

So far, Ford’s electric crossover—a solid piece of competition for the Tesla Model Y—is performing well and seems to be well received by the EV community. So, when can you get your hands on Ford’s electric Mustang? Is there still a way to order a new 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E?

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the current status of the 2022 Mach-E, how long it could take you to get one, and how to find a Mach-E for sale right now.

Why You Probably Can’t Find a New 2022 Ford Mach-E

If you haven’t already guessed it by this section’s header, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E sold out in April this year. As of right now, reservations for all four trim levels of the Ford Mustang Mach-E 2022 are closed, and you’ll have to wait for the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E reservations to open before you can secure your place in line.

When will your next opportunity to reserve a Ford Mach-E come? While reservations for 2023 have been delayed from the original date of August 15th, 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E reservations are currently scheduled to open back up in September. Production on the 2023 Mach-E will begin soon, so you may be able to get your hands on one by early next year (2023).

Current reservation holders are seeing 3-8 month average wait times between Mach-E order and fulfillment, but that can change depending on a number of factors. Some buyers claim a Ford Mustang Mach-E delivery time as low as 2 months! Trim level, specific parts shortages and delays, and delivery region are all part of the equation, and no one seems to know exactly how these factors are currently affecting delivery.

However, unlike delivery experiences with a few other startup EV company deliveries, a delivery from Ford may surprise you in a good way by being earlier than projected. Several reports from customers state that they got their 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E delivered a week to a month sooner than anticipated. If you are a current reservation holder, we’d say that’s pretty encouraging news!

Let’s take a quick look through each trim level of the 2022 Mustang Mach-E and their availability:

2022 – 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select Production Delays

Starting at $43,895 MSRP, the base model 2022 Mach-E Select has been the Mustang Mach-E most widely distributed to dealerships. However, they likely aren’t as available at dealerships as the costlier trims at this point

2022 – 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium Delays & Wait Times

Starting at $48,775 MSRP, the 2022 Mach-E Premium sold out quickly, with orders closing in March. You can still expect to find them in dealerships across the country, but only a few. The Mach-E Premium can come with either the normal or Extended-Range battery, so price and availability vary widely. Other than the battery options, most of the pricing differences between the Premium and Select involve comfort/entertainment features and interior quality.

2022 – 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 Wait Times & Availability

Starting at $52,450 MSRP, the Mach-E California Route 1 also sold out as early as March. Coming with the Extended-Range battery as a standard feature, this trim of the Mustang Mach-e was popular with those looking to soothe their range anxiety. Likely due to its popularity, not many 2022 Mach-E California Route 1’s are currently available for sale.

2022 – 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Delivery Dates & Delays

Starting at $61,995 MSRP, the 2022 GT trim of the Ford Mach-E wasn’t the highest seller of the year, but as the closest competitor Ford has to the Tesla Model Y Performance, the Mach-E GT still had steady sales.

We expect to see an increase in production focus on the Mach-E GT (especially with the Mach-E GT Performance package) in 2023 as more consumers—and possibly more ICE Mustang fanatics— get used to the idea of an electric version of Ford’s signature pony car.

How To Check on Your Ford Mach-E’s Delivery

Rumor has it that Ford updates production reports every two weeks, possibly on Wednesday. While we don’t have confirmation of this as a fact, the two week timeframe may help you stay a bit more calm during your wait for your Mach-E to hit production.

For those who ordered through a dealership, you may be able to get an early idea on where you stand in line with their Mach-E orders. You can call your dealership and ask for the priority code on your vehicle, and they should be able to provide you with a number from 1 through 20. Spot number 1 is the highest priority (meaning your Mustang Mach-E is next in line at that dealer), and spot 20 is the lowest priority. While you’re asking about the priority code, make sure to get your four digit order number to use on Ford’s website to check on any progress they may show there (you’ll typically use this after you get your VIN).

Ford should send you an email update on your expected production date when your priority code goes lower than 10. Don’t worry if you don’t see an update reflected on Ford’s tracking website right away; sometimes the website takes 4-5 days to reflect changes in production status.

After your Mustang Mach-E makes it to the dealership, congratulations! You should see it marked delivered on the tracking website, though the dealership may need a day or two to process things before you can drive off in your new Mach-E.

Delivery Estimates for the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E

If everything goes well for Ford in the next few months, we expect the 2023 Mach-E to sell just as quickly as the 2022 model. If Ford’s production facility in Cuatitlan, Mexico manages to triple its output for the next round of Mach-Es as intended (they’re currently managing about 305 units each day, according to a recent report by Ford Authority), delivery times will hopefully be reduced by several months between reservation date and delivery.

Cutting the wait time for the Ford Mach-E down from 4-8 months to 2-5 months would be fantastic news for consumers, but there are several obstacles that could get in Ford production’s way. For starters, the semiconductor shortage is ongoing, and Ford and other automakers have been facing production delays throughout the shortage while also attempting to expand their EV output. Battery cell shortages are also ongoing, but an updated battery design (from Lithium Ion to Lithium Iron Phosphate) is expected for the 2023 Mach-E that should help reduce the effect of the shortage.

What production delays might mean for the future production of the Mach-E is unclear, but Ford remains certain that they can secure enough material for their expected output. However, the push to get Ford’s electric truck, the F-150 Lightning, into the market is in full swing. As a result, Ford’s priority decisions over the next six months will determine whether or not the 2023 Mach-E gets the extra semiconductor, battery, and production attention it needs.

How to Get a Ford Mach-E Right Now

Can you still find a new 2022 Mach-E in the marketplace? Absolutely, provided you have enough money and plenty of time to hunt one down!

Dealerships may still be holding on to a few new Ford Mach-Es that they can be convinced to part with for the right price (spoiler alert: the right price typically means a high price). Most of those Mach-Es will be the Select or Premium trim, but it’s not entirely unheard of to find a GT. Even with Ford cracking down on dealerships that are jacking up prices, be prepared to deal with the markup. The market is still in favor of sellers, not buyers, and we understand that some dealers will pad the bill accordingly.

However, the best way to get your hands on a 2022 Mach-E is not by scouring dealership websites for their last new 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. If you want a 2022 Mach-E, consider buying used. Currently, most pre-owned Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale have super low mileage and are in great condition. While the current market is crazy even for used EVs, you can find reasonably-priced Mach-Es close to or lower than MSRP if you’re patient.

Where can you find these used electric pony cars? Right here on Find My Electric! We’ve taken the hard part out of searching for EVs so you can look through listings quickly and efficiently. No need to slog through a bunch of ICE Fords to find the electric Mustang on our site.
